Dad Deal: Groupon

Recently I checked my e-mail and saw a deal that looked too good to be true – a $20 gift card to a popular bookstore for $10.  But I did some checking around, and it was legit.  So began my relationship with Groupon.

Groupon draws on a phenomenon known as “collective buying power” that, simply put, guarantees participating businesses a certain number of customers from a given promotion and in so doing convinces the businesses to offer discounts and deals that they normally wouldn’t.
It’s worth following the link to sign up.  You get an e-mail each day with the featured deal.  The mix is pretty varied, so chances are better than not that you’ll soon see something that appeals to you, and often the deals are for restaurants or (like the bookstore deal I mentioned at first) something that can be quickly and easily (and cheaply) turned into a family outing!
